Nathan

I sit down next to Cody and Scarlett. As Cody burps her Scarlett burps loudly, I can't help but not laugh. "Wanna watch TV?" I ask Cody.

"Yeah," I say as I lay Scarlett in my lap.

Nathan

I turn on the TV and put on 'The Soup'. I watch as Scarlett smiles at Cody. "You never had a baby shower, you know." I say watching the TV.

"Well, it's a little late for that," I say to Nate. "So, do you plan on proposing to me in the future?" I ask him.

Nathan

I choke on my drink and respond. "Well it won't be much of a surprise if I tell you that, sweetheart." I say calmly. But inside my head I am thinking: for shit sake I thought we were going to slow the roll and enjoy parenthood. But those are just my thoughts, I really don't know I feel on that topic. It makes me feel queasy and breathless.

I giggle, "Sheesh, boy, I was joking! We only just met," I laugh and kiss his cheek.

Nathan

I laugh and return the kiss. "You got me there." I say. I sigh and continue to watch TV. I pick up Scarlett and cuddle her.

I laugh, "Maybe when Scarlett is older we can start thinking about that," I say as I kiss her on the head.

Nathan

I nod my head. "You ready to go back to bed?" I say to Scarlett as she yawns. I get up and walk into her room, I place her in the crib. "Night sweet pea." I say dimming the lights and walk out into the living room.

"And besides, we could stay engaged for twenty years or two days," I say as I sretch my legs out.

Nathan

"What do you mean by that?" I say smiling. I sit next to Cody and lay my head on her lap.

"What I'm saying is if you do decide to propose, we don't have to get married right away. I don't mind waiting," I say to him.

Nathan

"Now I get it!" I say in a goofy voice and kiss her on the lips.

"You're so weird," I say after ruturning the kiss.

Nathan

"I will take that as a compliment." I say laughing. "You wanna go outside with me?" I ask Cody.

"Sure," I say getting up. I grab a blanket and wrap it around myself.

Nathan

We walk outside and Cody leans on me as we gaze at the stars. "Can I ask you something? what do you have against me smoking?" I ask her while lighting a cigarette.

I back away from him and sit down on a chair, "I had an uncle who died of lung cancer from smoking," I say as I swat the smoke from my face.

Nathan

"Alright fine, I will not smoke right now, no promises I will quit." I say putting out the cigarette. "Besides I doubt stopping now will help, I have been smoking since I was 14." I say sitting on the steps, I wave over Cody and she sits by me.

"I just don't want to loose another person that's important in my life," I say as I rest my head on his shoulder, "I don't mide if you smoke, just don't smoke five cigarettes in one outing."

Nathan

"Don't worry you'll never loose me, I will always be here for you." I say snuggling her. "I will be right back." I say getting up to get my guitar. "Listen to this song, I learned it a few years back." I say. I start to sing Tomorrow Will Be Kinder.

I hug Cody as she cries. I wipe her tears away and hold her. "Look at that star, it is beautiful." I say setting Cody on my lap. I take off my light jacket and wrap it around her. "I love you." I whisper in her ear.
